Amalie Jakobsen (1989, Grenaa, Denmark) is a Berlin-based artist known for her minimalist sculptures and large-scale public installations that explore scientific and anthropological concepts of time and space. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths University, London.
Her abstract geometric forms and microcosmic landscapes create immersive experiences. Her sculptures engage with their surroundings, often in a physical way, and force the viewer to move or look in a particular way. Her work, as the artist says, ”disrupts” familiar systems, seeking new explanations for understanding the world around us.
In more recent works, her minimalist idiom, expressed through the use of solid, industrial materials such as steel and aluminium, is juxtaposed with softer, natural materials such as stone and marble, giving her work a rich tactility.
Amalie Jakobsen's work has been exhibited widely at national and international institutions, such as Gl. Strand (Copenhagen, DK), ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art (Ishøj, DK), Politikens Forhal (Copenhagen, DK), Boros Collection (Berlin, DE), Feral (Mexico City, MX) and STCFTHOTS (Leeds, UK). Her public installations include Ringe Fængsel (Ringe, DK), Næstved Gymnasium (Næstved, DK), Atrium Seine (Clichy, Paris, FR), and the Danish Immigration Service Office (Næstved, DK).
